New Liquor Policy: In a significant move aimed at enhancing management efficiency in the liquor retail sector, the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has approved a new excise policy that will come into effect from October 1. This policy introduces a private retail system for the sale of liquor, marking a notable shift in the state’s approach to alcohol sales.
Private Retail System for Liquor Sales
During a press conference at the secretariat, Information and Public Relations Minister K. Parthasarathy outlined the details of the new excise policy. He revealed that the state currently has 3,736 retail outlets for liquor, of which 10 percent will be allocated to the toddy-tappers community. This allocation aims to support local communities while streamlining the management of liquor sales across Andhra Pradesh.
Minister Parthasarathy emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that quality liquor is available to consumers at reasonable prices. He stated, “The allotment of retail outlet licenses will be conducted transparently, ensuring fairness and accessibility for all stakeholders.”
Reservation for Backward Classes
In addition to the new liquor policy, the Cabinet also approved a proposal to provide 33 percent reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in legislative bodies. This decision is seen as a step towards empowering marginalized communities and ensuring their representation in the state’s governance.
Establishment of AI University and Skilling Academy
The Cabinet made several other noteworthy decisions, including the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) university and a skilling academy in Andhra Pradesh. These initiatives aim to enhance the state’s educational infrastructure and equip the workforce with the necessary skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving job market.
Airport Renaming and Vision Document Update
Among other resolutions, the Cabinet approved the renaming of Bhogapuram Airport to Alluri Seetharamaraju International Airport. This change is intended to honor the legacy of the freedom fighter Alluri Seetharamaraju, who played a significant role in India’s struggle for independence.
Additionally, the Vikasitha Andhra 2047 vision document will be renamed as the Swarnandhra Vision Document, with plans for its release scheduled for November 1. This document outlines the state’s long-term development goals and strategic vision for the future.
Infrastructure Developments
The Cabinet also addressed the ongoing Polavaram Project, approving the existing agency to construct a new diaphragm wall for the project. Minister Parthasarathy assured that any new works undertaken would follow a transparent bidding process, emphasizing the government’s commitment to integrity and accountability in public projects.
The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet’s recent decisions reflect a proactive approach to governance, focusing on economic efficiency, community empowerment, and infrastructural development. With the implementation of the new excise policy, the establishment of educational institutions, and strategic infrastructure projects, the state aims to position itself for sustained growth and progress. These initiatives will not only enhance the quality of life for residents but also promote inclusive development across various sectors in Andhra Pradesh.
